The Lion King Jr.

Aug. 3rd - 8th, 2022

The Lion King JR. tells the story of the epic adventures of a curious cub named Simba as he struggles to accept the responsibilities of adulthood and his destiny as king. Along the way, the young lion encounters a colorful cast of characters including spunky lioness Nala, charismatic meerkat Timon, and loveable warthog Pumbaa. To claim his rightful place on the throne and save his beloved Pridelands, Simba must find his inner strength and confront his wicked Uncle Scar. The Lion King JR. features classic songs from the 1994 film such as “Hakuna Matata” and the Academy Award winning “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” as well as additional songs penned for the Broadway production.

Shakespeare feast

Sept. 23rd, 2022

Join us for a Royal Feast! This fundraising event supports our team who is preparing for the annual Shakespeare Competition.

Guests will walk through the door of the Payson High School Auditorium and enter a dimly lit space, festooned with Renaissance decor. To the side, musicians in medieval costume play horns and stringed instruments.

The guests sit at a long table. Pewter- like plates and goblets lie before them. They spot the printed menu and learn they are about to dine on "whyte grape juice, sallet d'field greenes, soup, farsed game byrde and pudding."

Serving wenches appear. Then actors, dressed in tunics and long gowns, come forth to entertain the wayfarers. The actors sing and dance and portray moments from Shakespeare’s scripts. Occasionally one of the Merry Men or women may grab a tourist from the audience for a little of what we, in the year 2022, are wont to call "audience participation." Keep an eye out for peasants and clowns, who may throw you into the stocks.

TARZAN

Nov. 11th - 21st, 2022

Our school musical, based on Disney's epic animated musical adventure and Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan of the Apes, Tarzan features heart-pumping music by rock legend, Phil Collins, and a book by Tony Award-winning playwright, David Henry Hwang. High-flying excitement and hits, like the Academy Award winning "You'll Be in My Heart," as well as "Son of Man" and "Two Worlds," make Tarzan an unforgettable theatrical experience.

Washed up on the shores of West Africa, an infant boy is taken in and raised by gorillas who name him Tarzan. Apart from striving for acceptance from his ape father, Tarzan's life is mostly monkey business until a human expedition treks into his tribe's territory, and he encounters creatures like himself for the first time. Tarzan struggles to navigate a jungle, thick with emotion, as he discovers his animal upbringing clashing with his human instincts.

Elf the musical jr.

Dec. 9th - 12th, 2022

Based on the beloved holiday film, this hilarious fish-out-of-water comedy follows Buddy the Elf in his quest to find his true identity. Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa's permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and that his half-brother doesn't even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.
